45. Travel: (New) Orleans

I was a flight attendant for 10 years.  I've been to New Orleans more than a few times.  It is one of my favorite places in the whole world.  If I could be two people and the other one could live somewhere else, she would surely find herself with a New Orleans address.

When people think of New Orleans, they automatically picture the craziness and crowds of Mardi Gras.

Yes, that is New Orleans, just like a leaf is a part of the tree.  But the rest of the tree is pretty spectacular, too.

I gravitate to Jackson Square.  The St. Louis Cathedral is a living postcard.

You need to go inside, though, to really appreciate it.

I love the French Quarter.  It's like something from a really lush dream.

Browse some of the antique stores on Decatur Street or Royal Street.

Take a streetcar through the Garden District.

Gawk at the stunning architecture.

Make sure you take time to eat some pralines.  It's well worth the future dental bill.

And you have to go to Café Du Monde (Du Monde means "of the world") for their famous beignets and coffee.  Yum!  I like to relax here and people-watch.

Did you know New Orleans has an aquarium?  It's amazing.

I love New Orleans!

  2. Gave my hubby a sugar bowl for Christmas one year. He stared back at me blankly. My gift? Tickets to the Sugar Bowl (where U of I was playing) in New Orleans. What a great trip...thanks for the reminder!

  3. New Orleans is one of my favorite places in the world! My wife and I fell in love with it when we lived their prior to Katrina. Your post hits the nail on the head and I'm aching for pralines, beignets, streetcars, and NOLA! Thanks! Great post!

  4. I have NOT been to New Orleans but your photos make me want to go there. Frankly, I have heard nasty stories of vacations gone bad there - but, I suppose you can hear those stories about anywhere. I want to see that architecture!

  6. My favorite place in the world, even now we make it once a year. The food is the best.

  7. My hubby and I went to New Orleans a couple of years ago. Beignets are THE BEST. I bought a box of the mix from the cage so I could come home and make them myself. Totally not the same. Great pictures! Thanks for helping me walk down memory lane.

    1. No, I didn't buy a box of beignet mix from the 'cage'. Cafe, Yes! Cage, no!
